Hello Bruce,

I thank you for your posting as it allowed me to trace my family tree back to our shared ancestor James Raffan (Rathven).

You identified William Williamson Raffan as being the son of James Raffan (Rathven) and my father has identified William Williamson Raffan as being his grandfather and therefor my great grandfather.

I am most interested in the name change from Rathven to Raffan as reflected in the marriage certificate of James Raffan in 1865 and how you determined that he was actually born James Rathven.

All of my family history relates to Aberdeen Scotland and I was in fact born there myself in 1956.

I am Terrance Raffan, my father is Albert John Raffan, his father was James Smith Raffan and his father was William Williamson Raffan, son of our shared ancestor James Raffan (Rathven).

I would be pleased to hear from you and my e-mail account is raffant@shaw.ca I reside in the area of Vancouver, BC Canada.
