Patsy, I am happy I was able to reach you. I sent out a reply some time ago but I guess it never got through to you. None-the-less..I too am most interested in Elizabeth Ragin Holcomb and especially her Cherokee heritage. By way of history..my name is Stephen Houx..the son of Cecil Houx..the son of Edgar George Houx. My Grandfather Edgar George Houxs' mother was named Julia Ann (Loux) Houx. Julias mother was Lucinda (Hollingshed) Loux. Lucinda was the daughter of Julia (Holcomb) Hollingshead and Elizabeth (Ragin) Holcomb was the mother of Julia (Holcomb) Hollingshead. My Granfather Edgar always spoke of his mother Julia Loux and her Cherokee blood but no one in the family was able or willing to track it down. My Grandfather was always very proud of it but said many in the family tried to hide it. I always wanted to track it down but I am new to this. I got quite a bit of information from this site regarding Elizabeth. I understand she was married to a Solomon or Samuel Holcomb and that they originally may have had a Cherokee wedding prior to the formal one. I know nothing of the parents of Elizabeth. The farther back you go, the less info. of course. I was told that back then many did not speak of their Indian roots. That was unfortunate! I have looked to see if any relatives are on the Dawes or Miller rolls but have not found any yet. I did find a Lura (Ward) Loux, Gid Loux and child John Raymond on the Dawes rolls. I believe Gid may be Gideon Loux the first cousin of Henry Loux who married Lucinda (Hollingshed) Loux. They must not have been married long as I find Gideon later married was married to Helen (Geoff) Loux. It gets a bit confusing. Both sides of the family seem to have a "very colorful" history. I still cannot get over a "Houx" marrying a "Loux"...what are the odds?...hopefully there was not a spelling error! I would love to find anything else you may have on Elizabeth and the Cherokee heritage. It would have made it easier if they were on the Dawes or Miller Rolls. Oh, forgot to mention, I did find a Nanie and Cora HOUX on the Miller Rolls but I do not know who they are. I will find out....Take Care and please keep in touch..Stephen P. Houx
