Hi Shelia, I only have the Slave schedules of the 1830/1840 Census. My william did have Slaves, He was all by himself in 1830. In 1840 he was married with two children under five. He had slaves then too. The schedules only give the Age of the Slaves no names. My William was born around 1810 I believe. Tell me more about your Bill. I am pretty sure that my William is descended from William ragan who was married to Lucey (?). His will dated 1885 is on the Sumter South Carolina USGENWEB site. If you haven't read it you should read it. William had a son named John H. Ragin. John H. Ragin had sons John H. Jr., Richard, Charles, David, James and possibly my William. My william could be the son of either James, David or Richard. I think my William is the son of Richard based on what the census records say. My William Wilson Ragin married Ann E. Holliday around 1834/5. moved to Kingstree, Williamsburg County before 1860 and moved to Welaka, Putnam County Florida by 1870.
I hope this helps you determine if your Bill and my William could be the same person.

Alan
