Dear Pete,
Sounds like December 26,27 or 28, 1947 is probably right. My brother Dave said he thought it was after the war was over and this would explain why my dad was home on Christmas.
About grandpa dying in his early 50's; maybe I filed Grandpa having his first heart attack and dying on the same brain cell. When you're young, heart attack and death sound about the same and of course I have fewer brain cells for filing these days.
Still, the Henry to Harry thing doesn't mesh with the year of birth, but the first names do seem to have a connection for most of the boys.
One thing that may help is the obituaries for late December, 1947 from the Detroit News or Free Press.I think thats where they lived at the time.
Talk to you later,
Brian
