This is an update on David and Sarah RAKE...

According to Kansas Collection Books: Cutler's "History of the State of Kansas" State History, Part 17, Battle of Big Blue. "...according to the simple words of Col. Veale in his official report...,: HEADQUARTERS SECOND REGIMENT, K.S.M., TOPEKA, Oct. 30, 1864. ...On the morning of the 24th, we gathered together our dead...and took them to Kansas City, where we obtained coffins for them and on the morning of the 25th we busied [sic] them in Wyandotte--on Kansas soil. From there we marched home to meet our mourning friends and tell the sad story of the fallen. ..." Following this was the listing of killed and wounded in the separate companies. I wonder then if David was buried in [now] KCKansas, rather than Topeka, or if his body was later moved to Topeka. There is an older cemetery in KCK. I can check that info and see if he is listed.

I sat down at the 1860 census for Kansas, Douglas county. Finally I located David and Sarah!! The way the last name is written, it looks like BAKE, but the names and other info on them is definately David Rake family.
1860 Kansas, Douglas county, Kanwaka twp, P.O. Lawrence Page No. 207, G.A.Reynolds [written page number is 211]
Hope this further helps those researching RAKE family.
