Widow Mary Rake - 1774

While looking for something completely different in the SAR library last week, I found this rather interesting item and thought someone on this board might like to see it.
From: Marriage Notices in the South Carolina Gazette and its Successors - 1722-1801
"Last Wednesday Mr. John Wilson, of Edisto, aged twenty years, six months and twelve days, was married to Mrs. Mary Rake, widow, aged seventy-nine years, five months and nineteen days." News for Monday, September 12, in issue of Monday, September 19, 1774.
It is interesting that none of the other marriage notices on those pages contained the ages of the bride and groom. This marriage must have been at least a minor scandal.
