Bible for Auction on # 1445335525 The George A. Rake Family Bible 13 x 10 x 3 ˝ inch Holy Bible having belonged to George A Rake. A good estimation would be mid 1800’s. There are family notes that date from 1883, so I would say that’s a close guess. It’s missing the closure strap that closes the book. The button that the metal strap would have hooked onto is still there. If you can find a closure strap that fits, put it on, or take the brass receiver off. George has his name on the front shield and the book is actually a reddish/cordovan. It seems to be in good shape both inside and out. Engravings and other prints are in fine shape as well. Included with this bible is a loose “Certificate of Confirmation” for George on November 18th, 1874. The binding is good and tight and there is little or no foxing or browning of the pages. This
