German Raley families in western Maryland, 1830-1860

I am seeking other researchers who are working on German line of Raleys in Allegany County, MD.

My ancestor was Simon Samuel Raley m. Mary Ann Ruckle. Samuel was born about 1819 and died in 1860 of heart disease. Mary Ann was d/o Henry Ruckle and Kitty Stark, an Irish Palatine family who arrived in 1822.

They settled in what became Garrett Co. I hear that there were three Raley lines about that time, one of which was German. I am puzzled, as Raley is not a German name. The 1850 census has Samuel as 35 and born in Germany. Three death certificates of his children state their father was born in Germany.

I would love to hear from other researchers.
