Willis Rawls - RALLS
To all Willis RAWLS researchers:
just adding my two cents on Willis Ralls again.
First was Ann RAWLS his mother? what proof does anyone have? The Ann Rawls of Nansemond county, Virginia was most likely te daughter of Leavin Farrington (circumstantial). She was listed as a neigbor to him on a land record as was JETHRO RAWLS. Most likely her son or erhaps brother-in-law. Later a LEVIN RAWLS showed up who I believe was named for Leavin Tarrington (also noted as Farrington. This ANN seems to have died in Nansemond county.
The Willis RAWLS of Nansemond county stayed there and died there. He was the son of John RAWLS, SR. who I have circumstantial evidence was the son of a JOHN himself.
Your Willis was born circa 1780, too young to be on the 1783 state census of Virginia (3 years old).
The Willis RAWLS of CRAVEN CO., N.C. married NANCY WEST on the 2nd of May 1798 with ZEBEDEE RAWLS on the bond, stayed there past 1850 when he was listed on the 1850 census of CRAVEN county, North Carolina (Not Horry co., S.C.) That was listed in error.
Zebedee RAWLS married SARAH BRINSON, a widow of PIERCE GATLIN, and who had been married before to a SPARROW. ZEBEDEE and SARAH were paid from that estate about 1800.
both Willis and Zebedee were on the 1800 census of CRAVEN county.
on the 4th of May 1805 Samuel Brothers sold Willis RAWLS 112 acres in CRAVEN county with these names mentioned, SOLOMON CAYTON, WILLIAM CAYTON, LINKFIELD'S lne, HENDRICKS line?
on the 4th of January 1811 WILLIS RAWLS claimed and entered 100 acres in CRAVEN county, "North side of NEUSE RIVER" lying at the head of "GOOSE CREEK" adjacent to ENOCH GATLIN, JOHN and SCOTTS line and on te same date he enters and claims 20 acres, "North side of NEUSE RIVER," adjacent RALLS own line, JOHN LATHAMS, HENRY TILLMAN, and WILLIAM CATON'S line.
on te 7th of September 1813, MARY RAWLS married SILAS BRINSON.
in November 1816, ADIR SQUIRES {mother} ADIR SQUIRES {bondsman}, WILLIS RAWLS {bondsman}, BENJAMIN TILLMAN {bondsman}.
