Thanks to cousin David Rampling for getting this forum/board added to GenForum's list.

I am (slowly) researching all Ramplee, Rampley, Ramplin, Rampling, Ramply, Rampoley, Rampoly, ... etc.

It seems the first traceable signs of the family are around the Suffolk/Norfolk border in the mid-late 16th century.

The great majority stayed in Suffolk throughout the centuries but many migrated to London and subsequently emigrated all round the world. Certainly I have/had Rampling relatives (my mother is a Rampling) in Canada, USA, Australia and South Africa.

My own branch of the family migrated from Suffolk to London in the 18th century and then back to Suffolk two centuries later.
