Hi David,
I have just found your sight and may or may not be of assistance. You should have that family bible by now and it mentions James Rampling as his father. I made assumptions and came up with something similar.
My GGG Grandfather was James Rampling b 1793 Sudbury.
My GG Grandfather was James Rampling b 1825 Sudbury. He had two brothers Henry b 1821 and John Edward b 1827.
Henry and James came to Australia but John Edward remained in London and had a boy James about 1854.
Nows the loose trail from census:-
James had a son James 1876 in Bethnal Green and he could be the father of Godfrey Rampling.
An elderly Rampling in Australia told me that Charlotte Rampling was a relation and the only connection could be through John Edward Rampling. Don't know how he knew of the relationship but seems maybe there was communication but I have no evidence of such.
For more on my tree try RootsChat.com and look up search name Boogarbooz or 'Henry Rampling please help'. I have added quite a lot of stuff there and 'morryack' is my search name.
Hope this is of some help.
Regards Maurice
