Hello Neville - Shirley has advised me to contact you with regard to the Isherwood family, which now I think contains the Ramsbottom family here in U.K.
My ancester was Eliza Isherwood born 1802 in LONDON !! and she married Richard Morris of the Household Cavalry in London in 1824. From a baptism I have only recently found she was a daughter of James and Elizabeth - Most of these Isherwoods were Licenced Victuallers and had a Brewery in Regent St. London. I did not realise there were so many of them in London. I have been looking at the Lancashire ones....
I now know that Richard Ramsbottom 1749-1813 was an apprentice to a Thomas Isherwood (I have a copy) in 1753 for 7 years. Thomas being a Coffee House keeper in Goswell St. London at this time. Richard Ramsbottom went to live in Clewer, Windsor, Berkshire and along with other Isherwoods bought out a Brewery there.
I am waiting for a copy of an M.I. for Clewer Churchyard which contains many Ramsbottoms and Isherwoods.
If you have a marriage of James Isherwood and Elizabeth about 1800 I would be grateful. Also these Ramsbottomsand Isherwoods originally came from Yorkshire -
the above James said to be born in Bradford....
Are you in UK?
