The following is copied from a letter from one of John Randles children:
Richard Randles, our grandfather, was married to Elizabeth Benett. He came fromPennsylvania to Virginia, then to Tennessee in the year of 1786.He settledon the south side of French Broad River, at a sinking spring.it is now called the Creace Farm in the year of 1789.He had one black man, sold for a hundred dollars, and his son, Billie, bought him a black woman. They called he Annty. She was sold to Sam Blair for two hundred dollars and a young black girl. Will Rogers bought for four hundred dollars, and that makes 12 hundred dollars for the two black girls. One black girl kept back to wait on grandmother. When grandmother died, the colored girl had two children. Will Rogers bought the girl and her children for 5 hundred and 5 dollars, and that was to be divided among all of his children.
Grandfather and Grandmother are buried in the Rogers Creek grave yard not far from the church.
