Ransley Family Genealogy Forum
Thomas Ransley, born circa 1770 died prior to 1838. He was a hairdresser, whose business apparently took him from London as far north as Yorkshire. He was a bigamist marrying Elizabeth Boot in Tunbridge in 1893 and Ann Wren in Marylebone in 1896. Elizabeth returned to her native Nottingham with her two sons Thomas & Robert and her daughter Ellen was most likely born in 1804. Robert was a soldier who was at Waterloo 1815 and retired from the Army in 1838 as a Chelsea Pensioner. Thomas & Ann's family included the Rulemaker brothers Henry, William and George, remained in London.
Thomas' two families, one in Nottingham and the other in London, were apparently aware of the existence of the other, as they intermarried in 1856.
It is most likely that Thomas Ransley the Hairdresser was illegitimate, was reasonably well educated and had financial support. His benefactor (birth father?) could have been a Mr Walter (surname) or Walter (given name). It is possible that Thomas was born and educated in Tunbridge.
