I have basically the same question.

My father, Earl Francis Rapp, was born in Bellevue, PA on 07/27/1902. He and my aunt Clare Katherine Rapp claimed to have been decendents of a famous Napoleonic "German" general. Neither my father, nor his sister, had ANY education or even the slightest interest in genealogy.

My grandfather on that side, Matthew Rapp, was apparently born in Pennsylvania (Etna, Harrisburg?) on 03/31/1869. His father, Joseph William Rapp, was alleged to have been born on 01/05/1845 in Pennsylvania or Ohio. I don't know much about the man. He apparently did not appear in the 1900 USA census.

I would love to know more about the children of General Jean Rapp. I have a fair bit of information on the General, but nothing on his children. I have a copy of his memoirs, which were published in 1823 (London). There are very personal comments penciled on the margins of the copy that I xeroxed from the California State Library 30 years ago. The scribbles were made by a woman who wrote English and had very little use for the General.

John Rapp
