Pat:
John Rash is be the brother of William Rash who both were early settlers in Jackson County Alabama, near Stevenson, Alabama around 1820. William Rash was a well known planter in the area and is the namesake for the town of Rash, Alabama a few miles from Stevenson. John Rash died approximately 1840 and is buried on Rash family land along Coon Creek.Lewis Rash may be David Lewis Rash, John Rash's son who left Alabama sometime after 1827 and settled in Fayette County Tennessee near Somerville. Both John Rash and William Rash were born in VA, moved with their family to North Carolina, then migrated to Kentucky around 1800. By 1810 they were both in Jackson County, Tennessee and then migrated with their sons to Jackson County Alabama sometime around 1820 as land was available after the relocation of the native americans in the area. Both John and William Rash and some of their son's show up on the 1830 Census for Jackson County, Alabama. However, the last name was mispelled as "Rush", this being a common error in the spelling of the name RASH.I would be very interested in obtaining a copy of the will you mentioned in your post as John Rash is my GGGG Grandfather and Lewis Rash may be my GGG Grandfather, David L. Rash.
Please contact me as I have information on the Bryant Family of Jackson County, Alabama and John Hunt Morgan from the book the Stevenson Story, by Eliza B. Woodall which may be currently out of print.
