If he is buried in the National Cemetery in Ft. Smith it should tell the dob and dod? He was probably in the service and you can get his Service Records. However, there was a J. Leonard Raulston who lived in South Pittsburg, TN who wrote a wonderful book on the Raulston/Roulston/Ralston/Rolston, etc. line and another book about history of the area and I cannot recall the name of the book. The book about Raulston is called The Raulstons and The Part They Played In American History published in 1970 supposedly but it was later because I did not begin genealogy until around 1975 and I sent in information for the book. But it says copyright 1970 by J. Leonard Raulston, maybe because it was an update that I contributed part of? It begins with John Roulston 1653-1717 and continues through the 1970s on some lines, I had sent in the information just before 1976 when my Grandchild was born (Aug. 3) and missed being in the book by days.

I have not been able to locate anyone from his family to try to find out if they were ever going to republish as it does not have an index, which would have been handy.

There was another book published about the same family called Raulston & Russell Genealogy by Barbara Gonce Clepper published in 1986 which I purchased in 1991. You may be able to reach the author at P.O. Box 505, Wyandotte, OK 74370 Her Index shows Matthew Raulston on 7 different pages. Matthew and James were used over and over in the lines. Maybe if you locate someone who has the Col. James Raulston who served under Gen. Andrew Jackson in the war of 1812 and settled in Marion Co. TN on the Internet, Roots Web World Connect, probably, you may locate your people. I know my line came from Marion Co. TN to Pope/Yell/Logan Co. AR so they are probably connected. My ancestor who came from TN to AR was James Cross Raulston, son of William O. Raulston (son of Col. James Roulston).

Col. James Roulston 1778-1844, had FOURTEEN children so I assume you could easily be from that line but I am not positive.

Good luck with your search, if you get a little more that I can nail down I would be happy to share with you.

Charlene
