Hi! I am looking for any information on Benjamin Benson Cohen, owner of the Albermarle Hotel (established around 1874) on Surf Avenue in Coney Island Brooklyn, NY. In July of 1897 he also entered the theatrical business as a manager with William E. De Verna. He put a great deal of money into "Nature" which was said to begin on August 30 at the Academy of Music in NY. De Verna died right before the opening of the play and it sank. Two years later in 1899, Ben was declared bankrupt. He has 2 sons that I know of. Augustus born 1863 in Manhattan, married eldest daughter of Solomon Perry (Bessie) and had one son. She later re-married Martin Rauscher. Gus died in 1899. Benjamin Jr. married Louise Rauscher in 1895 and married May Rown in 1899. I think that is all the information I have on them. The reason for my search is that my great grandfather was born in 1903 as Frederick Cohen. He was adopted by his grandmother Sophie Dickinson Baldwin and her husband Frederick Robley. I believe her daughter Hazel and one of the Cohen's from this family are his birth parents. He left us some clues, however we still cannot put the pieces together! Thank you, Erin
