I am just writing to share with the world the information I have learned about the Rauscher families from the Austria Emnpire (Today Poland) aka Galicia. Today in Poland, there is a district of Lvov called Rzeszow. Before World War II, this was a very active Jewish area with dozens of surrounding towns. In Yiddush, Rzeszow is pronouce Ray-Shah which is where the last name Rauscher comes from for the families in that area of the world at that time. I have seen many many different spelling variations for the Rauscher name for people from families in this area. Here are some of the variations: Rauscher, Raucher, Roscher, Rosher, Reicher, Reischer, Recher, etc... you can use your imagination. The way of life in Rzeszow during and before the 19th century was that a father would teach his trade to all his sons. The eldest son would remain in the father's town and become a full partner in the father's business. The younger sons would move to nearby towns, start their own business and get married and have a family. The trade of choice for the Rauschers from the Austrian Empire (Galicia) living around Rzeszow was definately being a Tailor. If you are a descendant from a Jewish Rauscher from this neck of the woods who was a tailor, there is a good chance I am related to you. Here are some names of individuals I have tracked down that were from that area and were tailors: Julius Roscher (Raucher, Rauscher, Rosher) Louis Roscher (Rauscher) George Roscher (Rauscher - Louis' son) Herman Roscher (Father of Julia, Joseph, Etta, Selma, Dorathy - these children names were hard for me to read so I might have mispelled them some) Jacob Rauscher (husband of Josephine and father of Arun, Manuel, Hannah, and Charles - again... childrens names might be mispelled.) James Rauscher (father of Mary) Joseph Rauscher Benjamin Rauscher (father of William and Sylvia) If you are descendant from any of the above or any tailor with a Rauscher sounding name from the Austrian Empire, feel free to contact me. My last name is Roscher and I have joined up with http://www.familytreedna.com to located other distant relatives. If you are interested, check it out. Notify Administrator about this message?
