Chloe, The DNA project is designed to answer that specific speculation as to whether we all really are descended from a common ancestor. We already have the results back from 4 people who have tested and we clearly have two distinct and unrelated lines that can not have a common ancestor. What is fascinating is that three of us (2 that match and the one that doesn't) have all inherited old research done by previous generations of our families which state that we descend from Henry Raiborne who died in 1732 in Henrico Co., VA. Now my guess, based on what we are seeing in other surname groups as well as what those of us who are researching now with the benefit of access to so much more information, is that we will find that the old theories are going to be disproven. It seems older researchers found a will somewhere and it was a similar name and they automatically jumped to the conclusion it was their ancestor. Much like the "three brothers" yarn that everyone has heard old folks pass around. Almost every one of us has run into the story that our ancestors came on the Mayflower if there happened to be anyone on the ship list that had your surname. Even when it is known that all the males of that surname died the first winter, the story is hard to kill and bury. Guess people had no earthly idea just how many ships brought immigrants all up and down the coasts. So, keep watching and check out Roger's website to see the results as he posts them. Better yet, find a male of your particular branch of Raeburns (whatever spelling) to join in the project and be tested. Gail Notify Administrator about this message?
