Sherry, Unfortunately, no, it wouldn't work. It must be a male born of the surname that is being tested in order for it to be compared with others of that surname. I don't know if you have traced the line such that maybe you know of a male brother of your mother's father and his male Rayburn descendants or not. Sometimes when the line breaks off to a female early on, it is tough to locate a male of the surname you want to test. I had a hard time locating someone on one of my other surnames of interest but finally did after about 2 years. You might check out the Rayburn surname DNA project website to see if anyone is researching a line in the same area you are to see if maybe they have someone who has tested. I don't watch the Rayburn project too closely because I am so busy with the Turner project I had to let some things slide. We have found that it seems my Raibourn line has more matches with people who now use Rabon or Rabun spellings (without an "r" in the last sylable).
