Jay, I noticed that one of your Rea family wound up in Wayne County, IL.I am looking for information on an Elizabeth Rea who married a McCormick before 1842.This marriage may have happened before leaving Ohio or after arriving in Illinois.I believe that this family settled in western Wayne County, IL or the very eastern portion of Jefferson County, IL, which adjoins Wayne County. To this marriage was born at least one son...David McCormick...born appx. 1844 and one daughter...Nancy McCormick...born appx. 1841.On the 1880 census for Wayne County, IL David stated that both his parents were born in Ohio.I have no idea of what county in Ohio they may have lived.I am unable to find this family on any 1850 census. There is a family rumor that the family went to Arkansas, where Mr. McCormick died and Elizabeth married a Mr. Carter. The story goes that he was so mean to her that she either divorced him or just left and came back to Illinois, taking the children with her. There is a Carter household listed on the Wayne County, IL census for 1860 which shows all the children named Carter and the head of the household as being Elizabeth Carter. However, one child is David (shown as the right age for David McCormick) and one is Charles, which family lore tells me that there was a step-brother named Charles Carter connected to the David McCormick family. So, am quite sure this is the correct family.
Would love to hear from anyone who might have ANY information on this family Rea or David McCormick. Contact Verdaine Hooper, 826 Hwy. 75 N, Marked Tree, AR 72365-9434
