Hi Greg,
Thank you for the posting. The Arthur Rea/Rhea that you show in the 1800 census is who I speculate may be the father of my Martha Rea.However, I do not have any conclusive evidence at this point.I have no guesses on who the mother may be.
Regarding census information, no Rays/Reas/Rheas/Reys/Wrays have been located in the 1780 census for Bedford County, but George, Hendiey, James, John and Thomas did appear in the 1790 census.
Regarding the marriage of Thomas Rea, Jr., according to research done by the Pioneer Historical Society of Bedford, the Bedford County Pennsylania Archives, Volume 1, page 15 shows that this Thomas was married to Martha Ash by Rev. Derry of Chambersburg, not Thomas Hunt.On page 17, however, it does show Thomas Hunt marrying Thomas Rea to Margaret Sells."The Ancestory of James M. Rea" compiled by Lorna Borman, June 1989, shows this Thomas Jr. and this Thomas as being the same person, but with two wives. It also shows him having been born in Ireland on March 22, 1770, and that he came to Bedford with his father.
According to "The Ancestory of James M. Rea" compiled by Lorna Borman, June 1989, Thomas Rea Jr.'s siblings were George, William, James, Arthur, Mary Ann, Jane, Matha, and Agnes. In support, Ms. Borman includes a transcribed will of Thoms Rea senior from pages 45-46 of Will Book #2, Bedford County, Pennsylvania, Courthose, that mentions his children.page 4
Unfortunately, there are a lot of recurring first names of the Reas/Rheas, such as George, Thomas, James, Martha, etc., but I have only one reference to a Nancy. In "The Ancestory of James M. Rea" compiled by Lorna Borman, June 1989, there is a reference to the "History of Bedford, Somerset and Fulton Counties, Pennsylvania by Waterman, Wathins and Co., 1884".It says that on page 350a there is a biorgraphy of Col. James Madera whose mother was Nancy Rea, the daughter of James Ray, a Scotman by descent, whose father, John Ray, first settled the town of Bedford.
I have yet to get back to Bedford to sort through records at the courthouse as well as the Pioneer Historical Society.
Hope the above information is useful to you.
