Kathleen, thanks for the reply - do you have a connection with the family? My knowledge of Thomas and his family is as follows:

It appears that Thomas took up employment with the family brassfoundry, Ready & Meynell in Bilston St. Wolverhampton as he is shown in the 1851 census, aged 22, as being a brassfounder and resident in Tettenhall. Thomas married Ann Dunn, daughter of William Dunn, a surgeon of Bilston Street, at St George’s Church, Wolverhampton on 4 January 1855 and their son, Arthur William, was born in 1856. By the time of the 1861 census, however, Ann and Arthur were living with her parents, William and Sarah Dunn, in Bilston Street, Ann being shown as married but with no trace of her husband having been found in England at that time, or at any later time. In 1871, Ann and Arthur were still living in Bilston Street but she was shown as being a widow. By 1881 she was living in Penkridge with her unmarried sister Caroline. Ann died in Paddington, London in 1903 aged 71; she never remarried.

I have found no record of Thomas' death in England between 1861 and 1871.

Significantly, when his father, Thomas Snr, died in Lichfield in 1866, Thomas Jnr was excluded from the will although his son Arthur William Ready was provided for, being left £30 a year for his education to be paid to his mother until the age of 21 when he would receive £500. Arthur was at Wolverhampton Grammar School 1866-67 and matriculated at Wadham College, Oxford on 22 April 1876 where he was a scholar 1875-80, being awarded his B.A. in 1881. The 1881 census showed him lodging at 310 Park Road, Toxteth Park, Liverpool, age 25, with an occupation of Schoolmaster B.A. He was later an Army Tutor of 58 Napier Court, Hurlingham and 60 Chancery Lane, London. He died on 7 March 1923.

Any further information would be appreciated.
