Jim:
It is difficult as Scranton and Blakeslee have quite a few Reap families then and now. Have you checked Ancestry.com Message Boards? In fact my grandfather's John sister, Mary, was living with Patrick and Ellen Hennigan in Hyde Park in the 1880 Census. Ellen's brother Patrick Rape (Reap) was also living with them. He was 17 at the time.
Today the Mother Superior of Marywood College last name is Reap.
Scranton is a very difficult place to find records. They now won't look things up if you live out of the area.
When I request paperwork from anyone, I get some for a Patrick C Hurst. My Patrick and Patrick C. were born in Ireland about the same time and immigrated about the same time - Patrick C over the Census years has lived in Hyde Park, Scranton, Ashley and Wilkes Barre. The only thing is Patrick C was a priest. Someone told me that the Patricks were cousins, but no proof of that.
I haven't been able to find any death certificates for Anna Reap or Patrick Hurst. Cathedral Cemetery told me their records are poor in the old period but Patrick, Anna and an infant son, Henry, were buried there sometime before 1885.
I believe they attended St Patrick's Church in Hyde Park and I check with them for a Marriage Certificate, but they don't have anyone to check any records. - Brick Wall!!
Let me know what you think
Anne
