Hi

I am descended from Eliza Ann Reckhow b1813 Tottenville, Staten Island. The Richmond County site

http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/NY/Richmond

is extremely helpful here. I am still trying to pin down her parents given by my great grandmother as William or Abraham Reckhow and Nancy [?] Fountain.

Origins of the name sent me in 1994: Richou, Richauw, Richaud of French origin, probably Walloon [French speaking protestants from Belgium].

The emigrant was, possibly, Daniel Ruychou/Richaud from Danzig; m1661 New Amsterdam Catharyn Van der Beeck.

Other spellings I have found are Ricas, Ricau, Ricke, Rico, Rigoult from Staten Island Wills.

Maybe you have this?

Pam Proctor
