Good to see there is another Michael somewhere. I was born in Shawnee Mission, Kansas, then our family moved to Maryland in 1990 when I was in the 8th grade. I just recently moved to Baltimore. I am a civil engineer and I heard there are a number of engineers in the family.

My father is Robert Rectanus Jr. from Ft. Wayne, Indiana. Most of the family still lives in that region.

I also heard that Rectanus translates into "right-thinker" (combination German-Latin) I also heard that the original name was 'Hansmuler', or something like that. The name was changed during the Reformation, as a relative was exiled from the Catholic church.
