Yes, that is the key piece of information. I have more that proves the authenticity of the certificate (to my satisfaction, anyway)and some papers that seem to offer an explanation of how the erroneous idea of a second marriage got started in the first place.

I am in Florida till the end of April and my records are back in Indiana. Maybe we can discuss it more when I get home. The certificate and some other records are in a family bible (some loose and some bound into the bible)that originally belonged to Nathaniel Redd's son John and remained with family members who lived in the brick Redd house at Redd's Mill for six generations. The original bible is still in the possession of a branch of the family and the records have all been photocopied

There is a page typed in about 1929 (I'm going from memory here) that is a brief family history and lists all 15 of Nathaniels children and many of their spouses. It looks like it might have been prepared for a reunion or some such occasion. The page is set up in a way that it would be possible to missread the fact that one of Nathaniel's daughters married an Everly (her second marriage) and conclude that Nathaniel had a second wife named Everly. It would have taken some pretty careless reading to make that mistake but that is what I think happened. I think Malissa Doolittle made that error and put it in print and it has been repeated ever since. Hundreds of times! You'll see what I mean when I get home and send you a copy of the page.
