I have census records for John Red/Redd for 1860 Barnwell, SC; 1870 Barnwell, SC, Aiken,SC. 1880 Aiken, SC. Believe he died in SC. The 1880 census shows his wife was bedridden or maimed and most of his children were close by in Aiken County. John had a son named John born 1850 who married Olive.

His son Basford brought his family to Texas and worked in the cotton mills in Denison, Texas and Dallas, Texas. Finally settled on a farm. Basford and Martha Emma Howland had 12 children - born in South Carolina, Georgia and Texas. Basford was in Texas by 1890.

Which of your Howells married Reds?
