Still seeking some specific info. on Thomas REDINGTON1614, Hunsdon who went to Ireland with Cromwell's army. Those who seem to be the Irish descendants spell the name REDDINGTON and sometimes use the surname MULDERIG - loose translation from Gaelic is "red chief". There is even a REDEHAN variation according MacLysaght, in his book on Irish surnames. The first record I find of Galway REDINGTONs is:Thomas REDINGTON b ca1735, Kilcornan, Stradbally, Galway, m Sarah BURKE ca 1760,then later a Mgt. REDINGTON b 1767 Kilcornan. The Galway records show that at least some of the REDINGTONs were owners of large landholdings as late as 1870. At that time Christopher REDINGTON owned 9,626 acres in Galway with his residence listed as Kilcornan. That seems to be a pretty definite record of residence in Galway. My gr gr gr-mother was a REDDINGTON b near Dunmore, Galway ca 1825, but I don't know her father's first name nor her mother's name and can only speculate re siblings names from the names she gave her children.
Does someone know more about the Galway REDINGTON/REDDINGTONs?
