A 'quick' update on my MACE hunt.
Mary Alice Mace, b. November 08, 1859 in Hamilton Co., IN, m. 1st Ira Wilson Lane in Ottumwa, IA in 1876.That same day in Ottumwa, Ella Mace married James J. Mabry.Mary Alice went by the name of Mrs. Alice Lane.In Ella Mabry's obit, it states she leaves sister Mrs. Alice Lane.
In Mary Alice's obit and death certificate, info given is her parents are Jesse Mace and Catherine Scott.
Ella Mabry (Mrs J. J. Mabry) is listed in the obit of Mrs. Mary C. Reddington as a daughter.Hence, Ella and Mary Alice must both be daughters of Mary C. Reddington, and the C. must stand for Catherine.Mary C. also left her husband, Mr. John Wesley Reddington. In John Reddington's obit, it states he was married twice..doesn't give the name of his second wife but does list a Myrtle which was also listed as a daughter of Mary C. and John Reddington in Mary C. Reddington's obit.No mention of any step children. In the 1910 Paola KS census, a John Reddington is listed as step-father and living with Jesse Mace and family.
In John Reddington's obit, it does give the name of his first wife, whom he married in 1852 and she died in 1861.Her name was Jane Mace.
Mary Alice (nee Mace) Lane married 2nd Sam McAnulty/McNulty in 1935, after his first wife died in CO.The name of his first wife was Charlotte Jane Mace.Charlotte was the daughter ofJohn Mace and Melissa Sackman.John Mace had twin James who married Melissa's sister, JuliaSackman.On-line tress showJohn and James also with a brother Jesse, family unk except for a son Jesse and a son George. No wife listed.Repeating my other posts on Mary Alice, she was from Sheridan IN as was Charlotte and Sam.After Charlotte's death, Sam traveled from CO to east KS and married Mary Alice.Family lore is Sam and Mary Alice knew each other as children.Mary Alice's father was a Jesse….I still feel her father is the same Jesse as the brother Jesse totwins John and James.
The Jesse in the Paola 1910 census is the step-son of John Reddington so he must be the son of Mary C. Reddington, making him the brother to Mary Alice and Ella.(sheesh!)Now all (!?!?!) I have to find is where did this Jesse in 1910 go (he's not in the 1915 state census in Paola) and where is his obit/death certificate……….and who is Jane Mace, first wife of John Reddington????BTW, all locations match up in regards to any info listed above.
I believe that Jesse and Catherine had at least 4 children prior to 1863 and Mary C. and John Reddington did have 6 children all after 1863.Follows are some of them( as listed in the obits) in hopes the names are familiar to anyone reading this:
Ella Mace/Mrs. J. J. Mabry
Mr. Jesse E. Mace
Mrs. Myrtle Patten/Mrs Myrtle Taylor/Mrs. W.A. Taylor
Mr. Riley Reddington of Sheridan IN
Mrs. Philip Hadley of KC
Mrs. Edward Clark of IA
Mrs. C. W. Herzog of CO
Mrs. Frank Brown of CA
Mr. J.H. Reddington of AR
Mr. J. E. Reddington of KC
Mrs. M. B. Lloyd of MI
It has been suggested that Jane Mace was probably a sister to Jesse Mace Sr or at the least a cousin as people tended to marry someone they knew and were close to.
OK, thanks for reading, I'm still plugging away at this.
