John S. Redington - NEED HELP! 2 Wives-2 Families??
I could really use some assistance on nailing down that last piece of evidence to tie this line up. Hopefully I can write this out where it makes sense.
First I am working backwords from my grandmothers half-brothers, Joe Redington Sr. born February 1, 1917 in Kingfisher County, Oklahoma, and Ray Redington. I have established that their father was James Wesley Redington born March 23, 1885 in Kansas and died 12/1963 in Alaska. I spoke to Joe's widow Vi a couple of years ago, and she stated that James had a brother named Sylvester. Using this information here is what I have, and where I am going.
I believe that James and Sylvesters parents are John S. Redington and Cordelia (unknown maiden name). I think this is John Simpson Redington, but need to verify for a certainty. On every census record place of birth seems to be inconsistant, I am guessing that it depended on who was giving the information to the census taker. Using census records on the above information here is what I found.
1910 Census Kingfisher Twp., Kingfisher County, Oklahoma;
John Redington 73 Indiana Unknown, Canada
Cordelia 66 Missouri Missouri Missouri
(states that had 9 children 6 living, following additional information below I believe that John and Cordelia where previously married and had children with other spouses)
1910 Census Garfield County, Oklahoma
Sylvester Redington 27 Kansas Indiana Illinois
Marie 27 Iowa Iowa Missouri
Cora 3 Oklahoma Kansas Iowa
Silas 2 Oklahoma Kansas Iowa
Roland 4/12 Oklahoma Kansas Iowa
James W (brother) 25 Kansas Indiana Illinois
1900 Census Cedar Twp., Logan County, Oklahoma
John Redington Aug 1836 Indiana Canada Ohio
Cordelia Mar 1844 Missouri Missouri Missouri
Sylvester Jan 1883 Kansas Indiana Missouri
James W. Mar 1885 Kansas Indiana Missouri
(states that John and Cordelia had been married 18 years)
Here is where it gets confusing, using the belief that this is John Simpson Redington, and finding only one census record that even comes close to his information deduced from the above here is what I found going further back
1880 Census Jackson, Osborne, Kansas
John S. Reddington 44 Indiana Indiana Indiana
Minerva (dau) 18 Indiana Indiana Indiana
Francis M. (son) 16 Indiana Indiana Indiana (found in 1910 Cimarron Twp., Kingfisher County, Oklahoma aged 46-Indiana)
Oliver P. (son) 15 Illinois Indiana Indiana (found in 1910 Sheridan Twp., Crawford County, Kansas 45-Illinois)
John M. (son) 10 Illinois Indiana Indiana
Ashly (son) 6 Illinois Indiana Indiana (found in 1910 Eminence Twp., Woodson County, Kansas 36-Indiana)
Alvin A. (son) 4 Illinois Indiana Indiana
I found some records that stated John S. Redington married Rhoda Ellen Jones 12-07-1856 in Decatur County, Indiana, also found in records that she died 12-04-1879. This would then make since if he married Cordelia abt. 1872 and they had Sylvester and James. Going from the 1880 to 1900 census records all the children listed above were all old enough to have married and moved on. Here is where I really hit a big BUMP IN THE ROAD, to date I have been unable to find John S. Redington anywhere in the 1870 census, maybe someone else has or can, and can prove that I am totally off track or correct in putting this together
Now going to the 1860 Census where I pick up John S. Redington and Rhoda Ellen (Jones), at that time they had 2 boys, who by the 1880 Census where old enough to be out on their own, but all of the children listed above in the 1880 census weren't born yet.
1860 Census
Springfield Twp., Franklin County, Indiana
John S. Redington 24
Rhoda Ellen 23
George Lafayette 2 (found in 1910 Excelsior Twp., Kingfisher County, Oklahoma Age 52 under Reddington. Also fuond buried at Bird Creek Cemetery, Kingfisher, Oklahoma with dates of B: 03/12/1858 and D: 06/24/1931)
William Edward 7/12
Now moving on to whom I think John S Redington's parents census;
1850 Sand Creek, Decatur, Indiana
George Redington 40 Canda
Delila 35 Pennsylvannia (found records that here maiden name is Simpson, hence John Simpson Redington)
John 14 Ohio
Isaac 10 Ohio
Francis 8 Ohio
Martha 6 Indiana
Ermiline 4 Indiana
1860 Sand Creek Twp., Decatur, Indiana
George Redington 52 Canada
Delilia 46 Ohio
Isaac 20 Indiana
Francis 18 Indiana
Martha 16 Indiana
Emmaline 14 Indiana
George 5 Indiana
William R. 2 Indiana
1870 Sandcreek, Decatur, Indiana
George Reddington 60 Canada
Delilah 55 Ohio
Isaac 30 Indiana
George 14 Indiana
William 10 Indiana
So as you can see I have made some assumption's but it seems to fit, if I could just find the 1870 Census to tie this together or if someone has that one missing piece I can put this together, or start all over.
