John C. O. Redington of Syracuse, NY (need ancestral info.)
Hope the following details gleaned from census records finds a descendant with needed information.
John C. O. Redington of Syracuse, NY was born NY in August 1837 (poss. Madison County), son of Rev. John Harris and Emily (Washburn) Redington. By June 1900 John C.O. Redington [what C. O. stood for I do not know] was a publisher in Syracuse, NY but died before April 1910.His only known sibling was sister Emily born in August 1839.Their father Rev. John Redington was born in Vermont and died circa 1841 in NY.Sister Emily was adopted by Rev. Septimius Robinson of Morrisville, VT, whose then 2nd wife was Semantha, sister of the also deceased Emily (Washburn) Redington. In 1850 at age 13 John C.O. Redington was living with the family of his aunt and uncle, Rev. Asahel Cornwall and Emma (Grant) Washburn in Suffield, CT.
John C. O. Redington married Emma S., who was b. in NY in July 1849.She was a widow in Syracuse in April 1910; they had 4 children, all sons:
1. George, b. NY c1871, died betw. the 1900 and 1910 censuses.
2. Edward J., b. in Illinois Sep. 1873.He became a lawyer in NYC and was alive in 1930, m. late in life to Louise Tate? and had dau. Hope b. in c1828; living in 1930 in Pelhamville, Westchester County, NY.
3. Arthur B. or C., b. NY in Mar. 1879, m. Margaret M. and in 1930 was a plumbing contractor residing in Rochester, NY. Ch. by 1930 census were Richard, John, Thomas, Margaret and Dorothy, all born in NY.
4. Bertram A., b. likely in Kearney, NJ in Feb. 1881 (where his parents resided in the 1880 census), who m. "Ruth C." By 1930 he was a civil engineer in Syracuse with daughters Emily O. and Ruth H.
Does any descendant of this family have any knowledge regarding their ancestral grandparents - Rev. John Harris Redington and wife Emily Washburn - including when and where they were born, died, etc? Emily is the only child of her parents (Col. Asahel Washburn and Dorothy "Dolly" Hamilton) for whom I have no vitals to complete the family group. She likely was born in Greensboro, VT between 1810 and 1820, as her father is listing there in both the 1810 and 1820 censuses before moving to Montpelier, VT in the 1830 and 1840 census. Montpelier maybe where John and Emily (Washburn) Redington married, since that is also where Emily's sister Semantha had in 1835 m. the widower Rev. Septimus Robinson.
Thanks for your help.
