Reddington's in Mayo/Ireland and USA
My name is Kevin Reddington. I live in Philadelphia, Pa,USA. I was just googling my family name and came across several entries posted on here.
My Aunt, Mary Reddington Brucker, recently past away, she had been very much involved in our family history up until her death this past June. Through her research, we learned that our great great great grandfather was Patrick Reddington, who was born around 1805 in the Swinford area of Mayo, Ireland. He had married Mary Tunney. In 1845 they had a son, John Reddington. John Married Mary Loftus. They had a son, Martin, born in 1875, this was my father's (Martin)grandfather. Martin married Mary Shiel and they had a son, my grandfather, John Reddington. My grandfather was one of nine children. He emigrated to the United States in 1928 on the SS Baltic. He lived in Buffalo NY for a while before finally settling in Phialdelphia and meeting my grandmother, Mary McCafferty of Donegal, also an Irish Immigrant. He had a few sisters that also emigrated to America but we never learned much about them, there had been some bad blood in the family apparently. My grandfatehr died in 1943 when my father was only 5 years old. My father grew up knowing very little about his family. We do know that one of his other sibblings, a brother, emmigrated to Australia.
I am sure there were many children born in each generation, however I only know the direct descendants up until my grandfathers siblings.
I have visited Ireland several times and have been to the graveyard in Swinford and my Family's land, which is still owned by my fathers cousin, Noel Reddington. Noel has a sister, Maryanne Mead, who lives in Chiswick, London. Our families have become close and we see each other every couple of years. If anyone can add any new information, it would be nice to hear from you.
