Emily Ruth Redington and Giles Foster Montgomery children
In circa 1842 my 3g grandfather adopted his 3 year old orphaned niece, Emily Ruth Redington, who at age 24 in 1863 married Rev. Giles Foster Montgomery. Immediately after marriage Emily and Giles became Congregational missionaries at Turkey. They had five children born at Turkey, four surviving to return to the U.S. while three grew to adulthood to marry. I am detailing this family for genealogical purposes and would like to complete the family descent:
i. William Owen Montgomery, died in 1886 unmarried at age 21 and is buried with my extended ancestral family in New York.
ii. Rev. Marshall Foster Montgomery, a Priest of the American Episcopal church, who purportedly died in 1956 possibly at Connecticut. He married Pearl Louise Abell at Huron, South Dakota in June 1900. They were living at Newark, NJ in the 1930 census and had no known children. When and where did they die and where are they interred?
iii. Rev. George Redington Montgomery, a Congregationalist-Presbyterian, died 1945 at Stamford, Conn. Married 1) in 1902 Emily E. Emerson, by whom he had son Roger Emerson Montgomery, who purportedly is the Roger E. Montgomery who died in 1989 and is interred with second wife Inez Cope at Sharon, Connecticut. Who was Emily Emerson and did her son Roger have any children?
George R. Montgomery m. 2) Helen ____, by whom he had two sons:
a.Marshall H. Montgomery and
b.Giles Newton Montgomery.
Who was 2nd wife Helen and where are George and Helen interred?
Son Marshall married Prudence I. ____ and died at Delray Beach, Florida in 2000 with Prudence there in 2003. What was Marshall’s middle name, who was his wife Prudence and did they have children? Are they interred at Delray Beach?
Son Giles Newton Montgomery died at Stamford, Connecticut in 1985. He married Eleanor “Nunni” Andrews Barrett and had three children. Eleanor died at Sunapee, New Hampshire in 2009. Where are Giles and Eleanor interred?
iv. Mary Williams Montgomery, who died at Corpus Christi, TX in 1955. She was the 2nd wife of John Gutzon de la Mothe Borglum, aka Gutzon Borglum, the sculptor of Mount Rushmore in South Dakota. They had two children. I know where Gutzon and Mary are interred and the identity of their two children, Lincoln and Mary, who are now also deceased, but not the identity of Lincoln and Mary’s children, if any.
Rev. Giles Foster Montgomery d. at Adana, Turkey in 1888 and his death was attended by a large number of people including Turkish dignitaries. If I can ever get the American Embassy at Turkey to respond to my multiple inquiries, perhaps I will learn where he is interred. Emily d. at Beirut, Syria (now Lebanon) in 1898 and it is perhaps unlikely to learn where she is interred.
If anyone can provide me with further details regarding Emily and Giles’ children, I would greatly appreciate it. If there are living descendants, please email me. The living details will be kept private.
