Book-Redingtons of Clarinbridge
I finally have the book "The Redingtons of Clarinbridge" By Joseph Murphy.Information from the book. The Redingtons' origin in Galway only went back to the 17th century and the information about their arrival is vague. Two theories, the first that they were traders and the second that they were Cromwellians. There was a belief held by many local people that the first came from Wales or Brassle, which was most likely Bristol - strong trading roots between Galway and Bristol give credence to this theory. The second assertion claims that the first to arrive in Galway was a Cromwellian soldier the sone of Francis Redington a Protestant Dean from Dromore in Co.Down.
Thomas Redington of Cregganna (b1697-d1780) he married Margaret Lynch of Lydican.Their children were:
1.Nicholas of Mirehill, Headford married Marcella daughter of Christopher Burke.
2.Gregory emigrated to America.
3.Tommy 1742-1827 married Sarah daughter of Christopher Burke of Kilcoman in 1763.
4.Mary married Thomas Ruttledge of Comfield.
5. Eliza married Mr. Archdeacon of Cork.
Tommy and Sarah had:
1.Thomas died unmarried
2.Nicholas died unmarried
3.Christopher(1780-1825) married Frances Dowell Cadiz in 1812.
4.Margaret married Lord Ffrench Castleffrench.
5.Honoria married Malachy Daly Raford.
6.Mary Eliza.
Christopher and Frances had:
1.Anne died unmarried
2.Thomas Nicholas - later Sir Thomas (1815-1862).
This is all that is listed in the Ancestral tree of the Redingtons.I hope that this will be of some help.Sally Prickett
