I am trying to track down a persistent rumor in my O'Leary Family:

According to family history my GGM Catherine Regan O'Leary of Drimoleague, daughter of Ellen Cain and Jeremiah Regan of Caheragh parish, of east Cork, had a brother who owned or operated a hotel in Cork City "near where the races were run". This brother____ Regan, took in his niece and nephew (my grandmother and her brother) to help out in the hotel, and he taught them "sums" and "writing" sometime in the early 1900s.

My grandmother's brother Patrick told this story to his family many, many times and said that is how he learned to read, write and do arithmetic.

The brother could have been Patrick, Michael, Cornelius, Daniel or Jeremiah Regan.

More family details at Our Regan Cousins: http://cousintocousin.tribalpages.com

I am hoping that perhaps someone else has heard this story.

Thank you, Pat
