Paul Reider, by his will dated the 6th of August, 1804, gave to his sons Paul, John, Daniel, Abraham, and Ephraim, the 199 acres of land which had been sold to Paul Reider by David English Jr.
Paul, John and Daniel, after coming into possession of the paternal estate first laid out and surveyed the town, now Newport, into 54 lots.....this settlement was called Reiderville until the formation of the county in 1820.
A ferry was put across the river, which was known as "Reider's Ferry", and was crossed by the troops in the war of 1812-15.This ferry was used until the erection of the bridge by the Reider's Ferry Bridge Company, which was incorporated on the 4th of April, 1838.Abraham Reider was one of the named stockholders of this company.
