REINHARDT , Gil On August, 17, 2011, Gil Reinhardt , 62, died at home after a long, heroic battle with GBM. Gil graduated from Catonsville Sr. High in 1967 and held a college degree. He was a self-taught musician and composer who as an adolescent began his first band in the basement of a row home in Arbutus, MD. He went on to play lead guitar with many noted Baltimore Bands including, Urch Perch, Koffee Beans, The Cracker Jack, Griffith Brothers and other show and country bands across the country. He later formed a professional association with Tom Fogerty. Gil then went solo becoming a classical guitarist, mandolist and vocalist whose most recent focus was playing Brazilian music and teaching others his craft. Gil was a student of the Civil War, Christianity and enjoyed traveling and hiking with his late dogs, Louie and Reno. He especially enjoyed hiking in the Sierras, loved Reno-Sparks, Nevada, held a black belt in Karate and was an anti-drug crusader. Gil also volunteered his time and talents to noteworthy causes such as civil rights, and mental health. Gil was pre-deceased by his beloved "Aunt Mary" in 2006; his mother, Juanita Gibson Merson on Aug. 7, 2007; and step-father,"Dave"Merson in 2008. Gil is survived by his devoted sister Charlene Knecht Knight; nephew Bryan Knight; and his family, his loving dogs, Lou Annie and Sparky, their five puppies and countless friends, fellow musicians, and fans across the country.
Burial will be at Meadowridge Memorial Park, August 22 at 11 AM . In lieu of flowers, donations in Gil's name can be sent to mission4maureen.org., N. Range Behavioral Health -Frontier House, Greeley, CO, or the Sweet Relief Musician's Fund. Published in Baltimore Sun on August 21, 2011
