Perhaps you can help me. My branch (in question) emigrated to the US during the American Civil War. I have a strong suspicion their origional name was REINTJES, but was anglicized to RANGES (a phonetic spelling) by emigration.
Christian RANGES (REINTJES) (b. ~1816) came with his wife and six children, aboard the Therese, a ship from Bremen, arrived NYC, 8 Oct 1864.
He is approximately the same age and (generation) as your Petrus. I wonder if they could be related?
Christian named his children:
Margarthe (after his wife)(b 1846)
Henry (b 1850)
Caroline (b 1854)
John (b 1853) twin
Frederich (b 1853) twin
Georg (b 1858)
Do any of these names bear a family connection?
