The only Remsen that I have found in Nova Scotia was a family that came here in 1783 - Jacob Remson, an elderly lady named Alice, John Remsen, and a girl named Elizabeth Remsen. I don't know their relationship to each other but think Jacob and Alice were the parents of John. They received grants of land in Clementsport, then John received a grant of land in New Brunswick, and soon after he disappeared, probably returning to the USA. Elizabeth Remsen married Eliphalet Robar and was my great grandmother.
The Remsens were originally from Holland, and I think the name was originally Vanderbeek.

Roland.
