Hello,

I'm trying to identify the MOTHER, of Dr. Cornelius REMSON.
See details below.

Alida, daughter of Cornelius OSBORN and Helena PARMENTIER, was baptised at Rhinebeck DRC in 1742, with no sponsors named.

Cornelius OSBORN man had a number of children, including three sons, all of whom became physicians as well, and all of whom died unmarried.

He is also said to have "had a daughter, who had a son Cornelius REMSON, who was trained as a physician
by his uncles, and practiced in Wappinger's Falls, near Fishkill, NY".

WAS THIS WIFE OF UNKNOWN REMSON, AND MOTHER OF CORNELIUS REMSON, THE DAUGHTER ALIDA OSBORN, OR WAS IT ONE OF THE OTHER DAUGHTERS

There are total of five daughters mentioned, but none is specifically named. The only baptism I have found is for Alida.

Having left no descendants bearing his surname, there is very little out there about Alida's father Cornelius OSBORN/OSBORNE.

The following is pretty typical of what is known about him.

History of Dutchess County, Poughkeepsie, New York, Poughkeepsie, NY,
pub. by S.A. Matthieu, 1909. Page 548. (transcript)

DR. CORNELIUS OSBORNE, of Poughkeepsie, is the second physician whom we find to have been practicing in the county, and fortunately we can give of him quite a full and accurate account. There was a Francis Filkins living in Poughkeepsie in those days, and he is known and made celebrated by an account book which he kept, and which has been preserved for our enlightenment. In this book is found the following memorandum: "1745, September 1st. Dr.
Cornelius Rasbun<sic> agreed with me for twenty shillings per year to doctor my family. He has due one pound." In the Assessor's book for 1757 we find Dr. Cornelius Osborne assessed for one pound one shilling at Poughkeepsie.
Now we know that this Dr. Osborne was born in England, July 13th, 1723, that he joined the American Army as a surgeon, and served in the war, and died about one-half mile above Fishkill, at Osborne Hill, on August 23rd, 1782.
He left three sons, all doctors, and all dying bachelors at the homestead. They were James, born August 13th, 1748; Peter, born March 4th, 1759; Thomas, born July 27th, 1764.

Any information about Dr. Cornelius REMSON, particularly anything that would identify his father and mother, would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Sharilyn Whitaker
