Is Renfrew Scottish?

I am looking for information about the Renfrew (possibly Renfrow) family of Vermont.

The only information I have is based on oral histtory:

John Calderwood of Scotland married circa 1830s or 40s to Elizabeth Walker Smith, whose mother was Margaret Renfrew. John had come to America (Vermont) as an orphaned boy to live with his uncle.

Also, has anyone conducted research on the migration to Vermont? Was it primarily a Scottish immigrate location?
