The house is located on Panther Mountain. It is near Drennen W. Va. I made a trip there several years ago and it still stands. It was being remodeled and the upper deck was not there. It may look quite different now. The road curves just passed the house and it continues on...It was very washed out on that day and it was raining while we were there. My Dad said there was a cemetery somewhere just beyond that curve.
I found the cemetery online once and there was a posting of unmarked graves. One was Mrs Henry Martin or something like that. I believe this woman to be Rebecca McCoy - James Avis Renick's mother. She had James Avis by William Renick who married Jane Dickson. She married Henry Willis Martin and he raised James Avis Renick. If you dig around the online records you can find James Avis Renick (stepfather Henry Willis Martin)And also inheritance left to him by William Renick.
I haven't been working on genealogy for some time since my Dad passed away. He gave us the directions to the house and we were surprised to find it exactly where he said it would be. Lurie, Pearl, Elsie (Little) - my great aunts lived together in Houston for some time. I grew up there and had many visits with them. Elwin Boyd Renick is my grandfather...(known as Boy) I don't know the others in the picture or how they fit in. They could likely be related. The elderly man in the picture (if it's like mine) is James Avis Renick. His wife Margaret Grose must have already passed away at the time the picture was taken. My photo has the date 1901. James Edgar Renick and Sarah Drennen were my great grandparents. My dad was named after him Jame Edgar Renick. Feel free to contact me. I have a facebook account and I can dig out some stuff in the mean time to try to give you some more specifics. We have a very strong Scottish heritage.
