Susanne

The following are taken from either the IGI or from Parish records or from Census records and/or via the Jersey Archive and show the link all the way down to my Grandfather and my Mother.

Thomas Renouf baptised August 11th 1809
married 14 Feb 1830
Elizabeth Monet baptised September 1807

Children
Elizabeth bapt 14.11.1831
Thomas bapt 25.12.1831
Jane bapt 28.4.1833
Ann bapt 3,8,1834
Harriet Margaret bapt 3 Jan 1836
Louisa bapt 8.10.1837
Amelia bapt 2.9.1840
Charles bapt 26.7.1842 my Grt Grt Grandfather
Emma bapt 1844
Ellen bapt 1846

Going back one step -

Thomas's parents were

Jean Servant Renouf and wife Jeanne Les Cras.
His Godparents on the register were given as Mr Thomas Du Jardin and wife Magdeline de St Croix.

Elizabeth Monet's parents were
Phillipe Monet and Marie Hamptonne.

The register shows Thomas had a elder sister called Betsey bapt 21.3.1804 - there may have been others but if so they may have been born in another parish. all the entries referred to here relate to St helier.

On louisa's bapt the Godmother is given as Jeanne le Cras.

Thomas and Elizabeth were still alive in 1881 and living with Harriet and her Husband.

Most of the above was researched by David Terry, but he makes no mention of an Alfred.

However, in the 1871 census Thomas and Elizabeth are shown as still having Elizabeth, Harriete, Louisa, Charles, Emma and Ellen with them, but also what appears to be three grandchildren - might be Thomas's son Thomas's children : I am going to ask Jersey archive if they can check this out for me.

Thomas C age 13, Alfred C age 8 an Ada E age 4. This must be the Alfred that you referred to as Louisa's Brother. His birth year was 1864, and there is an Alfred in St helier 1881 Census.

Carrying on in brief, Charles married an Emily, amongst numerous other children had a son called william, who married a Mary Halliwell - sometime after they had my Grd father William charles my grd Father (Born St helier 1882)and one other son Wilfred who died in 1917.

William charles married Gertrude Andrews December 1907, and my mother was born Jan 1908.....what can I say...

I will send you the relevant 1881 census entries - let me have your home email address.

Other descendents of William's sons are alive today and living Jersey.

If Thomas is part of your Husband's line, I suppose that makes him and I extremely distant cousins......!

Mike Renouf Shermer

PS I am one of four brothers - we were all christened with the name Renouf Shermer.
