Hi Tristan, Thank you for your response. I know a little about your line of Renoufs from Guernsey documents. The first is Robert Renouf son of Jean of Normandie who married Romaine Mahaut in St Peter Port in 1595. She died as a widow in 1631. In the documents there is also a reference to a Robin Renouf son of Richard of Normandy who bought land in Guernsey in 1524.
They were both affluent probably involved in trade of some kind. Roberts family were among the Guernsey elite/ governing class. They may have come from around Barneville Carteret of one of the towns further south Granville?

The first Renouf confirmed in Guernsey was in 1333. A Raoul who was head tenant on land at St Sampsons. He may have been a Norman arriving around 1300. It is not clear whether his line continued but I suspect so given the number and distribution of Renoufs in the 1600's. I have been told many Renoufs were to be found on the northern tip of the Contentin from Ormanville / Vauville Throughto St Pierre Eglise Vrasville et al.

I would be interested to discover where your line went to from Guernsey as I only have them through to 1700s.

Jacky in New Zealand
