Ann I will try to help. I have a lot of information on the Guernsey Renouf's up to 1901. A lot of people started to grow tomatoes in Guernsey and Jersey from the 1890's when the granite industry in the Islands ended. If you could find the grandparents names it would help. I wonder, since your father was born in 1948 whether his family had evacuated from the Islands in the second world war when the German Army occupied the Islands. There are probably lists of evacues either in UK or the two islands. Try the Channel Island list at rootsweb.com and get back to me if you find out some more. Happy hunting; it takes time but you will get results. Cheers
