Did a little more research. He was born in Paris in 1845, died in LeHavre in 1894. Found one other painting besides The Helping Hand that was painted in 1880. (Check out mairie-quimper.fr/musee/htcoib/merenou.htm if you can read French. Artisticdecor.com lists a copy of The Helping Hand at $299. An original is listed at artcult.com from $10,000 to $30,000.
