I have a little information on the Repp name: It is of Germanic origin. There are two other suggestions for the meaning: One is the Hebraic meaning of doctor; physician; medical man. Two is "black horse". The variants of spelling are: Rab (the earliest); Rabb; Rabbe; Raabe; Raben; Rave; Rap; Rappe; Raps; Rapps; Raap; Rabe; Raab; Rapp and of course our Repp.

Families bearing this name (or various spellings) were early residents of Thuringia; Norway; Alsace; Switzerland; Prussia; Denmark; Austria; Pomerania; and Sweden.

The earliest I know of (according to historians) was the Rab family of Denmark who goes back to a Heinrick, living in the year 1230.

My great grandfather, Frederick Repp, was born in Darmstadt, Germany in 1840. He came to the U.S. about 1860. He was in fact a tailor who had a covered wagon and traveled the south going from plantation to plantation and making all the clothes for everyone on the plantation. He married my great grandmother, Barbara Stein Miller in New Orleans in 1865. They ended in Plaquemine, Iberville, Louisiana where they reared their family.

Hope this helps some.
God's blessings
Louvenia
