Hello,

My grandfather, Howard Pershing MacPherson, left notes about his grandmother Sarah Anderson, b 1833, saying she was orphaned at an early age and raised by a Dunkard family. We later found information on the 1850 Tuscarawas census showing Sarah age 17 living with Solomon Pershing and Madeline Resler. Three years later she married Leonard Pershing, brother of Solomon. We also found information that the Resler family was of the Dunkard or Brethren faith. Sarah may have been the stepdaughter of Madeline but more likely was her step sister.
The Tuscarawas County Genealogical Society has marriage records from the 1840's for Brethren Rev Francis Hildt who performed the marriage of Sarah Anderson and her brothers John and George. I suspect he also performed the marriage of Madeline and Solomon.
Are you aware that there is a photo of Madeline in the book "The Pershing Family in America" written in 1924 by Edgar Pershing?
